Moon Sighting & the Beginning of RamadanAs-Salamu `alaykum. I live in the West. I’d like to know whether we should use the same moon sightings used in the East to start and end the month of Ramadan, taking into consideration that the time of day and night is different in both areas.
If Muslims all over the world fail to achieve this unity in rituals such as fasting, `Eids, etc., then each Muslim community is required to observe its unity in this regard. It is not acceptable at all for Muslims in a single community to divide over the beginning and end of Ramadan. The dilemma of the Muslims in the West is that some Muslims follow the sighting of the Saudi Arabia or other Islamic countries while others follow the sighting of their locality. Members of the same community should be united in this regard and Imams of the mosques should observe unity in the beginning and end of the fasting.

The long Dua made after recitation of Qur'an in Taraweeh of 27th of Ramadhan
Why isn't the practice of reciting a long Dua in the completion of the Qur'an during Taraweeh on 27th of Ramadan termed as Bid'ah? This is practiced by many mosques in the world including Masjid Al Haram and other salafi mosques.

Project Ramadan: Taraweeh: 8, 11 or 20 Rakaats?
Whoever prays more, there is no harm in that nor any dislike, as was mentioned previously. What is best for whoever prays with the Imam (of the Masjid) in the night prayer of Ramadhan is that he does not stop until the Imam stops praying. This is due to the statement of the Prophet (pbuh) :
"Verily, if the man stands for night prayer with the Imam until he finishes, Allah will write for him (the reward of) standing the entire night (in prayer)."

RAMADAN IN HISTORY
Today, the Muslim world is faced with drought, military aggression, widespread corruption and tempting materialism. Surely we are in need or believers who can walk in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, the illustrious Sahabah, Tariq ibn Ziyad, Qutuz, Salahuddin and the countless heroes of Islam. Surely we are in need of believers who are unafraid of the threats of the disbelievers, yet kind and humble to the believing people; Muslims whose fast is complete and not just a source of hunger and thirst.

This article provides useful advice on how to avoid some common problems encountered in Ramadhan. If followed, it would enable one to fast comfortably and enjoy fully the spiritual benefits of Ramadhan
Ramadhan: The Month of Opportunity
It is a month chosen by Allah (swt) as a month of fasting; an act of Ibadat that Allah (swt) made special to Him. He (swt) favoured this month over all other months by making it the month of mercy and reverence for all the believers. Indeed, this month is the most superior of months in which Allah (swt) revealed the Qur'an.
Ramadhan Address
"All the actions of the son of Adam are for him except fasting. It is for Me, and I will reward him for it. Fasting is a shield. On the day you fast, do not use obscenity, nor yell at others, nor act ignorantly towards them. However, if anyone abuses you verbally or attempts to draw you to fight with him, say 'I am fasting' two times."
Rulings for Iftar (Breaking the fast after sunset)If someone is invited to break his fast then he should respond to the invitation. If he refuses then he has disobeyed the Messenger (S).
Rulings for Sahoor (The Pre-dawn meal)Abu Hurairah (R) said that the Messenger (S) of Allah (T) said: "Verily Allah placed Barakah (blessing) in the Sahoor (pre-dawn meal) and in perfect measurement (weighing)."[Ash-Shairazee]
Dua for each day in Ramadhan
Zakat ul-Fitr explained
Rasulullâh Sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “The fast remains suspended between Heaven and Earth until the fitrah is paid.”
Zakaah al-Fitr is often referred to as Sadaqah al-Fitr. The word Fitr means the same as Iftaar, breaking a fast and it comes from the same root word as Futoor which means breakfast. Thus, Islamically, Zakaah al-Fitr is the name given to charity which is distributed at the end of the fast of Ramadaan.
Zakat al-Fitr is mandatory on every Muslim on his behalf and on the behalf of all people he is in charge of and should be distributed to the poor before Eid Salat.
